Who You Are We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Trust Officer to join our team in Ann Arbor! As a Trust Officer, you are responsible for the administration, risk management and servicing of assigned fiduciary and investment management accounts while meeting all corporate and regulatory compliance standards.
In this role, you manage relationships with your clients, but also possess product specialty knowledge and expertise (such as IRAs, Charitable/Philanthropic Accounts, ILITs, Estates, etc.
).
Our clients expect the best, we do this by communicating directly with our clients, Financial Advisors, and other internal business partners as necessary.
Our Trust team often work together, as part of a team of experts, administering accounts where tasks are assigned based on complexity.
Your Role Manage an account base consisting of medium to large personal trust relationships and ensures that trusts are carried out in accordance with agreement, Fiduciary law and Trust policy.
Ensure accurate administration of Estate accounts including the record keeping and monitoring of trust real estate and trust taxes and ensuring estate account bills are paid in a timely manner.
Meet with real estate appraisers, coordinates the sale of property and other estate related matters.
Ensure beneficiaries are properly notified and that assets are distributed according to terms of agreement.
Provide prompt, professional customer service by answering questions, resolving general problems as they arise; refers more complex issues to Senior Officers for assistance and resolution.
Ensure trust income is collected, distributed and invested, and that principal is properly managed, in accordance with agreements and sound Fiduciary principles.
Assume responsibility for overall client satisfaction by directing and coordinating the efforts of appropriate bank and financial resources to ensure timely delivery of quality service, issue resolution, and effective communication of client needs to partner.
Develop new and additional business and participates in regular joint calling and support, as needed, with the business development staff.
Represent the Bank through active involvement in community & civic activities.
Promote a positive Bank image and generate leads for new business efforts.
Monitors all trust and fiduciary income tax filings to ensure appropriate documentation and compliance.
Requirements: Your Knowledge and Experience Bachelor, Master or JD, preferably in accounting/business or finance.
Previous experience: 2-4 years in Trust or Estate administration with direct customer contact.
Thorough knowledge of estate settlement, income, estate and multi-generational taxation and trusts.
Working knowledge of fiduciary law, tax implications and practices in multiple jurisdictions, trust accounting/reporting, and other regulatory compliance requirements.
Knowledge and understanding of personal trust, investment and wealth management.
JD, CTFA, CFA, CFP or other professional designations a plus.
Member of Michigan Bar Association is a plus.
Completion of accredited trust schools and programs preferred.
Position Competencies Ability to manage priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
Exceptional verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions and instruct others, train personnel, write reports, correspondence and procedures, and speak clearly to customers and employees.
Ability to deal with complex problems involving multiple facets and variables in non-standardized situations with minimal guidance.
Demonstrated ability to work independently.
Proven ability to prioritize, organize, problem solve and work effectively with bank staff and clients.
Solid understanding of federal and state tax laws, income taxation and the appropriate state trust and probate code.
