* Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
* Four years of previous experience in a Michigan public school district
* Strong computer skills; proficient in developing and using high-level Excel spreadsheets
* Solid accounting and analytical skills, with high attention to detail
* High level of motivation, enthusiasm and organizational abilities
* Self-directed; ability to work with minimal supervision

*CHELSEA SCHOOL DISTRICT * *JOB DESCRIPTION * *BUSINESS SERVICES PAYROLL AND BENEFITS COORDINATOR * MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: * Associates Degree in Accounting (or Business field with significant coursework in accounting) or equivalent accounting experience, or minimum two years of accounting experience * Knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchasing, payroll, and personnel processing * Experience with year-end accounting transactions and preparing for year-end audit * Experience in handling highly confidential school district information * Proficiency in establishing and maintaining sound internal control policies * Proficiency in general office procedures included but not limited to telephones and office equipment * Outstanding organizational and time management skills * Excellent written and oral communication skills * Proficient with data processing procedures and computer applications, specifically Microsoft Office Suite products (Excel a necessity), email and internet ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: * Responsible for payroll systems coordination and employee database in New World Systems software * Set up employee compensations and benefits per bargaining unit contracts/employment contracts.
* Process payroll runs for all district employees and substitutes.
* Responsible for proper coding, account distribution, and calculation and payment of taxes.
* Maintain district payroll files including but not limited to reports necessary to pay employees and authorizations for any amounts paid/deducted.
* Responsible for all payroll reports, state taxes, federal taxes, unemployment, W-2’s and retirement.
* Responsible for the reconciliation of all payroll accounts.
* Work with Human Resources to calculate and maintain all personal, vacation and sick day leave accruals.
* Responsible for the distribution of monies to annuity companies, health insurance, retirement, union dues, garnishments, and any other payroll deductions.
* Responsible for Michigan Public School Employees Retirement System (MPSERS) reporting, including new and terminated employee forms and TDP forms via payroll electronic reporting, monthly reports, and quarterly reports.
* Report all Cobra changes to the District’s third party administrator.
* Work with the District’s third party administrator for unemployment claims, filing all necessary reports.
* Work with employees to explain and review payroll information.
* Strive to continuously improve the processes and procedures of the entire payroll system.

* Maintain a flexible work schedule to meet demands during peak periods for payroll and fringe benefit deadlines.
