*About us*
Doodles Academy is a national arts non-profit dedicated to ensuring all kids, regardless of their background, have access to high-quality arts curricula.
We do this by providing a powerful art curriculum, either at low cost or for free, to schools and communities that may otherwise not be able to afford it.
We also design our lessons for educators of all backgrounds, even those who are not formally trained art teachers.
Our 'home-base' is in Ann Arbor, where we develop and test curricula in workshops and classes.
Seeking 2-3 interns to act as assistant teachers in a district-wide art program.
Preferred applicants will be enrolled in either a teaching program or be a fine-arts major.
A specific focus in art education is not required from either, although if you have a history or interest
Interns will have the opportunity to work in our camp programming, as well as our after-school programming.
The upcoming term commitment is for the Spring Term.
You will support a Lead Teacher for 5 sequential weeks of after-school programing (3:30-5:30) 2-3 times per week starting the week of April 10th to May 20th.
*Benefits to you:*
We pride ourselves on being an extremely supportive organization, and will offer training and mentorship to support you in growing as a teacher.
Thus, we would like candidates who want to learn from this opportunity and grow their skills as a teacher.
Interns assist the lead teacher with between 13-20 students.
All teachers work with a supplied curriculum and work with and provide updates to the manager (including visual media and student testimonials).
Interns help maintain classroom order, and support with supplies and teaching according to the needs of the lead teacher.
They may be asked to work with and teach in small groups, and if interested, they may have an opportunity to lead the class.
We believe in using curriculum to create change, and thus we offer exceptional visual art curricula that provides outlets for young learners to develop and express their individuality while expanding their knowledge of the world and the diverse group of people they share it with.
Within our projects we offer resources to connect literacy and social studies content, often offer video tutorials, and connect to contemporary as well as classic artworks.
Interning with us will not only improve your teaching skills, but expose you to a high-quality curriculum that is holistic and integrated, and includes teaching pedagogies that can further prepare you to be a better and more effective teacher when you enter the field.
