Rudolf Steiner School of Ann Arbor is seeking a full-time Early Childhood Outdoor Kindergarten Teacher to join our strong and joyful Early Childhood department.
Candidates should have a love for being with children outdoors, good communication skills, and want to be a part of a collaborative team.
Our school is looking for someone who values authentic relationships, innovation, and a commitment to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion work.
Benefits of working at our organization include becoming a part of a community that cares about you as a person, your continued development, your life and family.
We value human connection and create an environment that inspires strong relationships between our students, families, and colleagues.
As a community, we are always considering the question of how to best meet the children of today through a pedagogy that upholds the dignity of each human being, and what we must re-imagine to do so.
This Early Childhood Outdoor Kindergarten Teacher will work collaboratively with their assistant teachers to share their love of nature while they bring a Waldorf kindergarten curriculum to life on our 13-acre campus through the seasons in Michigan.
Ann Arbor is also home to many parks and nature activities that can be an extension of the class, if the teacher so chooses.
There will be an indoor classroom available as a space for inclement weather, and a small outdoor structure for if the class needed to gather in a warmer, sheltered space in the winter for activities such as eating.
The teacher would be engaging with the landscape of the school- learning from the land, plants and creatures, and helping to care for them and give back, and honoring the original inhabitants of this land through story and other practices.
It is important to us that our teachers feel supported in their work by our strong and innovative administrative staff.
The school supports our students, teachers, and administration through a strong curriculum, schedules, festivals, and school-wide collaboration.
We offer both Spanish and German from first to twelfth grade, a growing movement program, strong fine and practical arts, choral and instrumental music.
We celebrate a wide mix of traditional festivals from around the world, including Rosh Hashanah, Diwali, Day of the Dead, Lunar New Year, and Eid.
The faculty meets weekly and studies various topics, allowing time to discuss pedagogy with colleagues.
We have an engaged and active faculty, and over the past year we have worked with Alma Partners to continue to develop our work in diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Waldorf education was created to offer a multi-sensory and holistic approach to education that strives to acknowledge the gifts and reduce the struggles of every individual.
Our pedagogy works to meet the developmental needs of children as it supports children’s academic, social, and emotional health through critical thinking, creativity, arts, and movement.
We believe children need less memorization and testing, and instead, more connection and hands-on learning inspired by the truth, beauty, and wisdom of our world.
Waldorf education was also founded on the principle that faculty should play an active role in governance and decision making.
