* *POSITION SUMMARY:* We are in need of Counselors for various Summer Day Camp programs run through Ann Arbor Rec & Ed.
The Counselor will be responsible for the planning and facilitation of day-to-day camp activities (through using the provided camp curriculum), which includes ensuring that the daily plans and safety protocol are conveyed to the campers in a clear and easy-to-follow manner.
Here are the types of camps in need of Counselors - when applying for this position, *please indicate your interest and ability* to lead camp(s) based on the *subject matter* and *age groups* provided below.
Ideally, we are looking for Counselors who can work *Monday-Friday* from approximately *8:30am - 4:30pm* for anywhere between *6-8 weeks *of camp (*June-August*).

Detective Camp* (ages 5-7) * *Dance Team Camp* (ages 5-7, or 8-10) * *Cheer Team Camp* (ages 5-7, or 8-10) * *Starting a Business “Biz Kids” *(ages 8-10) * *Camp Olympics* (ages 5-6, 7-8, or 9-12) * *Paw Patrol Camp* (ages 5-7) * *Pirate Adventure *(ages 5-7 or 8-10) Counselors are the face of Rec & Ed summer camps, and they are the people most responsible for creating a positive, fun, and memorable experience for our campers.
They leverage their engaging personality, experience working with children, and passion for the subject matter to get kids excited about camp.
A great Counselor will both lead activities according to the curriculum, and make adjustments on the fly as needed.
*MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:* * Passion for working with children * One or more years of experience as a camp counselor, coach, child care worker, teacher or other position working directly with children * One or more years of experience providing outstanding customer service and strong communication skills * Understanding of positive reinforcement techniques and experience in conflict resolution * Demonstrated excellent communication and teamwork skills * Superior organization skills and attention to detail * Ability to successfully manage stressful situations * Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks * Energetic and engaging personality * Personal interest and commitment to compassion and embracing diversity * Experience working in team settings * Ability to adhere to Rec & Ed and Ann Arbor Public Schools policies and procedures * CPR/AED & First Aid Certification or ability to obtain prior to start of camps (NOTE: Rec & Ed may be able to provide this training in late April - you can confirm that during the interview process) * 18 years of age or older prior to start of employment *ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:* * Develop positive, supportive relationships with campers * Welcome campers in a friendly manner each day * Assist with resolving any conflicts between campers according to best practices and policies * Answer parent questions about their child’s camp, their camper, or general policies in a friendly and positive manner * Safely supervise and manage large groups of campers in a variety of settings * Actively engage and instruct campers in activities according to a pre-developed curriculum * Lead impromptu games and activities as needed * Make adjustments to curriculum based on time constraints, camper abilities, or other factors, as needed * Prep activities for each session * Sign students in and out, checking IDs when campers are signed out * Check in camper medications, and make sure EpiPens and inhalers are stored safely * Follow established disciplinary procedures for campers, and document behavior * Report behavioral issues and/or camper injuries to Camp Supervisor as soon as possible, and be prepared to have direct conversations with parents if asked * Multitask and adapt to changing conditions and situations * Manage materials and report any items running low to Camp Supervisor * Work collaboratively with teammates to provide best experience possible for campers, parents, and staff * Follow camp policies and procedures, with focus on camper safety * Report concerns or problems immediately, and work with Camp Supervisor to resolve * Other duties as assigned *Job Type: Temporary (June-August 2024)* *Camp Location(s): Scarlett Middle School (3300 Lorraine St, Ann Arbor, MI)* *Pay: $16.
